Service Description

Spend the day creating with stained glass alongside artist Louis Gignac, and discover how colour and texture are transformed when light passes through the finished work. In this hands-on workshop, Louis will introduce you to glass appliqué, a process of arranging and adhering pieces of coloured glass onto a clear glass base. You’ll learn how to safely cut glass and work with a wide selection of colours, shapes and textures as you develop your own composition. Rather than following a set pattern, you’ll be encouraged to create a design that is your own. Louis will guide you in considering contrast, shape, texture, colour and areas of visual rest as your piece develops. You are welcome to come with a few design ideas in mind. The colours, shapes and textures of the glass available on the day may influence the direction your piece takes, so flexibility is part of the process. Some participants may enjoy designing as they go, while others may prefer to arrive with a few possibilities to explore. Your finished artwork will be set into an 8" x 10" frame, ready to display. No previous stained glass experience is required. All glass, specialized tools, materials and protective eyewear are provided. Please note: - Closed-toe shoes are required. - There will be a 1-hour lunch break. You are welcome to bring a lunch or visit one of the nearby downtown cafés and restaurants. Saturday, November 7 | 10:00 am-4:00 pm $150 per person Small group: 6-8 participants Registration closes Thursday afternoon before the workshop to allow time for frames and materials to be prepared. About Louis Gignac: Louis Gignac is a stained glass artist whose fascination with glass began after an inspiring visit to the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art in 2006, where he encountered the stained glass work of L.C. Tiffany. With a background as a medical laboratory technologist, Louis brings together a longtime appreciation for science, colour, light and close observation in his artistic practice. He is especially drawn to the rich colours and textures of glass and to the way light brings the finished work to life.
