Christine Mathers Thompson

Christine Mathers Thompson is an abstract artist originally from Toronto who has been based in the Leeds Grenville area since 2005. Her creative sensibility was shaped early by a home rich in art, culture, music, nature, and making, with influences ranging from dressmaking and millinery to jazz, classical music, and art history.

Her path to painting was nonlinear. Over the years, Christine explored a range of creative endeavours including textiles, fashion, dance, catering, event planning, and large-scale floral design, while painting and drawing remained a constant thread. Over the past several years, she has devoted herself more fully to abstract painting, developing a distinctive visual language that brings together organic and geometric forms, intuitive process, and emotional resonance.

Christine’s work is rooted in introspection and spiritual exploration. Through abstraction, she responds to social and emotional energies, translating felt experience into colour, shape, and dynamic mark-making. Her paintings invite reflection on the relationships between people, nature, and the unseen currents that connect them.

Her work has been exhibited in regional venues including the Prescott Library, Spencerville Muse Gallery, Cline House Gallery in Cornwall, and Arts Hub in Brockville, and she has participated in juried exhibitions such as the Brockville Juried Exhibition and the 2025 Fulford Place Juried Show. Alongside her studio practice, Christine remains active in her community through teaching art journaling and participating in the Art2Life CVP Alumni and the Art2Life Academy.

Christine brings an intuitive, exploratory approach that invites thoughtful visual engagement and personal expression.
